In her new memoir The Woman in Me, Britney Spears writes about her brief time as a judge on The X Factor USA in 2012. According to the New York Post, Spears shares in the book that she “absolutely hated” the experience, saying she was “very, very nervous” to appear on the show.

Britney Spears Remembers The X Factor Judging

In 2012, Spears joined the judging panel of The X Factor USA for its second season, alongside L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato, and Simon Cowell. The singer wrote of her decision to appear on the show, “I tried to occupy myself by being productive.”

“I think a lot of people are really professional on TV, like Christina Aguilera and Gwen Stefani. When the camera’s on them, they thrive. And that’s great,” Spears wrote of other talent show judges. “I used to be able to do that when I was younger, but again, I feel like I age backwards when I‘m afraid.”

Spears wrote that she got to the point where she became “very, very nervous if I knew I had to be on air,” adding, “Maybe I’m just not cut out for that anymore.” In the past, she said she has “been forced into things I didn’t want to do and been humiliated,” but now she knows how to say no.

“Now, if you’ve got me a cute cameo on a fun TV show where I’m in and out in a day that’s one thing, but to act skeptical for eight straight hours while judging on TV? Uh, no thank you. I absolutely hated it,” Spears wrote.

Simon Cowell Wants to Work with Her Again

Spears might not have enjoyed her time as a talent show judge, but Simon Cowell is leaving the door open for her to work with him again. In an interview with E! News last year, the music mogul called her “super smart,” adding that they used to talk on the phone for hours about The X Factor.

Cowell said Spears had “lovely ideas about how to launch someone else’s career,” adding that they had a “fantastic relationship.” He told Spears, “If you’re watching Britney and we make a show, please come back and do it with me. It would be amazing. I adore her.”

Spears’ new memoir, The Woman in Me, is out now.
